Earlier this month, a report surfaced that Microsoft was entering the game streaming business with a device similar to Amazon Fire TV Stick. The report was accurate, but ever since Microsoft has decided to focus its efforts on “a new approach”.
The report stated that within 12 months the device would be launched and would allow users to stream games available via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This appears to no longer be the case, according to a spokesperson for Microsoft that speaks to Windows Central, as the device, codenamed Keystone, may not see the light after all, at least in its current form.
“As part of any technical journey, we constantly evaluate our efforts, review our knowledge and make sure we bring value to our customers,” the spokesperson said. “We have made the decision to abandon the current version of the Keystone device. We will take what we have learned and refocus our efforts on a new approach that will allow us to offer Xbox Cloud Gaming to more players around the world in the future.”
For now, therefore, the project, first shelved and then resumed, would still be in the very early stages. All that remains is to wait for official announcements from Microsoft.
