BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Squadra Corse is on its way to the Sochi racetrack, determined to give its best in what will be the last weekend of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup, also for its driver Gabriele Tarquini.
After the solid performances shown by both drivers in the BRC Racing Team’s home event, the Race of Italy in Adria earlier this month, a podium is the goal for both drivers in the season finale in Russia.
In the team classification, BRC Racing Team has just conquered another position thanks to the results of the last event and is preparing to face the last weekend of the season with the second place still mathematically possible.
Michelisz and Tarquini enter the eighth round with two podiums and one victory each. Having both proven to be successful in the Hyundai Elantra N TCR, the two drivers will be looking to fight for the top positions.
The Race of Russia will be the first time the nation will host a WTCR event. Housed around the Sochi Olympic Park, site of the 2014 Winter Olympics, the Sochi racetrack is a 5,848-meter circuit, with many straights and 19 challenging corners. The track has all the elements for adrenaline-pumping races, the perfect ingredients for the end of the season.

BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Squadra Corse Team Principal Gabriele Rizzo declares: “We have the chance to finish the last round of the season in Russia with a flourish. It is the home event for our historic sponsor LUKOIL, to thank them with an important result is the goal of the whole team. We want to close 2021 with a positive result and give Gabriele the goodbye he deserves. Our goal is to extract the maximum from the potential of the Hyundai Elantra N TCR; we know we have the package to compete for podiums and victories “.
Michelisz comments: “The Sochi racetrack will be a new and exciting challenge for me, since I have never raced here before. I foresee a tough weekend, because we expect a much greater compensation weight than the others, but the goal is to get on the podium and finish the season with a flourish. We have the potential to rise in the rankings and we know the Hyundai Elantra N TCR is capable of great performance. I can’t wait to start this weekend with my head held high and try to get good results ”.
Tarquini adds: “The Race of Russia will not be the usual final round of the season. For me, as the last WTCR race, it will be completely different. After three small circuits, we are back on a longer track and I think it will be nice to drive at the Sochi racetrack. I have never competed there in the past, so I am studying a lot of videos from previous events to prepare for this round. I think I will have a lot of fun on this circuit, my goal is to win a podium in the last race of my career ”.
