Second success of the season for Frédéric Vervisch, who with the new Audi RS 3 LMS wins in Race 1 of the FIA WTCR in Pau-Arnos.
The Comtoyou Team boy took full advantage of the reverse grid start from Pole Position to hold the lead at the terrifying first chicane, where two accidents immediately occurred.
The first saw Yann Ehrlacher brutally close the door as Tiago Monteiro arrived, as if he were on the track alone. The contact between Cyan Racing’s Lynk & Co 03 and ALL-INKL.DE Münnich Motorsport’s Honda Civic Type R sent the Potoghese to the wall.
The episode ended up under investigation, as the Safety Car entered the track, staying there for 6 laps while the workers removed the Japanese car built by JAS Motorsport.
In the meantime, in the middle of the group a couple of contacts have sent KO steering and transmission to Yvan Muller, who with the other Lynk & Co of Cyan Racing has the pole of Race 2. We will see if the Alsatian will be able to line up.
SC left the scene, Vervisch got off to a great start by extending over Thed Björk’s Lynk & Co (Cyan Performance), which in the end closed with an excellent place of honor.
Thanks to a good start from the second row, Gabriele Tarquini brings the Hyundai Elantra N of the BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Squadra Corse to the last step of the podium, keeping behind the Hondas of the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport driven by the Argentines Esteban Guerrieri and Néstor Girolami.
The type of circuit did not favor overtaking too much and those few battles that were seen were also the result of tactics, such as the one that led Jean-Karl Vernay (Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing Team) and Norbert Michelisz (BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Squadra Corse) to exchange sixth and seventh places with their respective Elantra N, in favor of the French.
Graced by the commissioners, Ehrlacher is eighth, followed by the Hyundai of Luca Engstler (Engstler Hyundai N Liqui Moly Racing Team), who had to sweat the proverbial seven shirts to resist the Audi of Tom Coronel and Nathanaël Berthon (Comtoyou DHL Team) in the fight for the ninth place.
12th place for Attila Tassi with the only Honda of ALL-INKL.DE Münnich Motorsport surviving, ahead of the Cupra Leon Competición of Mikel Azcona (Zengő Motorsport), the best of the guys armed with the Spanish car since Bence Boldizs (Zengő Motorsport Drivers’ Academy) is 16th, while the latter’s colleague – Jordi Gené – and Rob Huff (Zengő Motorsport) retired due to a puncture and a technical problem respectively.
The points are completed by Gilles Magnus, who started from the back with the Audi of the Comtoyou Team-RACB, and Santiago Urrutia on the other Lynk & Co of Cyan Performance.
Race 2 is scheduled at 12; 15 on the distance of 15 laps.
