Tiago Monteiro will not race today’s FIA WTCR races in Sochi due to a bacterial chest infection.
The Portuguese had felt unwell on Saturday morning when he arrived at the Russian racetrack; immediately taken to the medical center for routine checks, he was later transferred to the hospital.
Here the doctors, after the various findings to rule out possible troubles related to the Coronavirus, diagnosed him with the problem that will necessarily keep him still, even if from Honda they let it be known that his state of mind is still good.
Monteiro will therefore not be able to get on the Honda Civic Type R TCR built by JAS Motorsport and tuned by ALL-INKL.DE Münnich Motorsport to lend a hand to his teammate Esteban Guerrieri in the fight for the title.
“In addition to the actions on the track, our attention is focused on Tiago’s situation – said team manager Dominik Greiner – The whole team wants to wish him a speedy recovery and it would be great to send him a good message of positivity by ending the season with a good result” .
Mads Fischer, Head of JAS Motorsport, added: “Obviously the most important thing is to say that we send our best wishes to Tiago, hoping he will recover soon.”
