It was a Saturday to forget for Scott Redding and Michael Rinaldi at the Donington Park circuit who showed up wet in the morning and then dried before Race-1. The two riders of the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati team never managed to find the feeling to be able to stay in the high positions of the classification in qualifying and the same difficulties were repeated during the race.
After a very complex FP3 also due to the intense rain, Scott Redding and Michael Rinaldi managed to limit the damage in Superpole by closing respectively in sixth and eighth place even if with a significant delay from the front row.
Both Redding and Rinaldi are not particularly incisive at the start. Above all, the Italian driver immediately loses contact with his teammate who, however, falls in the middle of the second lap. Rinaldi’s race pace is not the best and the number 21 soon finds himself fighting in the rear. In the final race the pace seems to improve allowing him to finish in 12th position and take home at least four points in the Superbike world championship standings.
Michael Rinaldi: “It was a race below expectations. After the Misano weekend we expected much more. I was unable to drive as I wanted. We certainly have to work to understand why under certain conditions we are not able to find a good feeling. There is something wrong and this is clear enough. We will have to understand why and find a solution “.
Scott Redding: “We struggle to find the right grip. This is a problem that we have been carrying around for some time and we absolutely need to solve it quickly. I’m usually strong enough in wet conditions while today I felt like I was skating, not even being able to defend myself from being overtaken by the other guys. I entered the corner feeling the rear wheel slip and the high side was quite hard“.
