The sixth success of the season gave Toprak Razgatlioglu the shared summit of the Superbike World Championship. The Turkish driver practically conducted all of Race-2 on the Los Arcos Circuit, for the epilogue of the Navarre Round. The Yamaha rider exhausted Jonathan Rea’s stamina and grabbed him at 311 points, thanks in part to overtaking Scott Redding with four laps to go.
These are the words of Razgatlioglu after the victory on Spanish soil: “Thanks a lot to the team, they did an amazing job this weekend. The second race was very important for me, I had to risk it and maybe try something different, so I changed the set up. I had to get a good final position and I’m very happy. This weekend was not easy, but I was on the podium in all the races“.
Rea returns home with his head down but still aware that he has not been overtaken in the standings: “I didn’t have enough pace to be with others, I didn’t have great pace especially in the final part of the race, in the last laps I was in trouble and I was trying to stay close to Toprak. I was faster from turns four to seven, but at the other points on the track he was faster. Kudos to Toprak and Scott who were doing very well. Hopefully we can catch up in Magny Cours“.
