After the domination imposed in Race-1 on the Barcelona circuit, Alvaro Bautista it was granted an encore in Superpole Race on Sunday morning, once again demonstrating a clear superiority over his direct rivals, starting with the two Kawasakis of Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes. The Northern Irishman, 2nd under the checkered flag, overtook his teammate on the last lap after running nine of the ten laps behind him.
Bautista, who started from fifth position on the starting grid, immediately took the lead at the braking point of the first corner, keeping it until the end without any threat from the ‘green’ duo riding the ZX-10RR. The reigning champion’s race, on the other hand, is more complex Toprak Razgatlioglu: the Turk, after taking advantage of the falls on the first round of Andrea Locatelli and Iker Lecuona – with the latter who, unlike the rider from Bergamo, did not resume the race – then overtook Michael Rinaldi’s Ducati halfway through the race, winning the 4th place the final.
Good sixth place for Philipp Oettl, who preceded the other Honda rider Xavi Vierge. They complete the top-10 Scott Redding and Loris Baz on BMW and Garrett Gerloff, who limited the damage after a long run on the first variant that cost Axel Bassani much more, sixteenth on arrival.
Waiting for Race-2, scheduled for 14:00, Bautista increases his gap in the general classification a 50 points on Razgatlioglu, in turn ahead of another five points over Rea. The Spanish Ducati rider is making the most of the home factor at Montmelò and in a few hours he will be able to complete the perfect weekend in Race-2.
