The WRC 2022 has just begun, yet the future is always in the sights of the promoters of the championship as well as the FIA and all the promoters of the events that aspire to be part of the World Rally calendar for several years. This is the case of the Safari Rally.
The promoters of the African event have in fact found an agreement and signed the extension of the contract that will keep the Kenyan rally within the WRC until 2026.
A very important agreement between the parties that ended with the signing of the contracts yesterday morning, at the Automobile Club of Monaco, in the presence of the Kenyan Minister of Sport Amina Mohamed and the managing director of the WRC promoters, Jona Siebel.
That’s not all, because with the agreement reached between the parties Amina Mohamed has signed several partnerships with the WRC for what concerns the development of talents and conservation of the territory, with the help of Phineas Kimathi, president of the Kenyan Motorsport Federation.
Amina Mohamed pointed out that the 2022 edition of the Safari Rally will be held from 23 to 26 June. “I would like to thank the FIA and the WRC promoters for their new welcome after the renewal of the contract that will keep the Safari Rally on the World Championship calendar.”
“I thank them for their hospitality in Monte-Carlo and for what they do for the Safari Rally. Thanks to the new relationship with them, we have activated several partnerships linked to projects for Kenya which includes work on new talents for the future, hoping that they can soon race in the WRC, but also for what concerns the territory “.
“It must be emphasized that the Safari Rally was among the most successful events in 2021 in terms of social media, with millions of impressions, but also for our economy. We have estimated that the rally brought several million euros to the tills. of the state”.
The Safari Rally officially returned to the WRC calendar in 2020, but due to the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic the event was canceled and postponed to the following year. In 2021 the event was regularly held and was won in extremis by Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia, who took advantage of the retirement of Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe while they were firmly in command of the event.
