Thierry Neuville concedes an encore by also winning Special Stage 8 Querol – Les Pobles 1 of 19.17 kilometers and continues to increase his advantage over the first of his pursuers, becoming more and more leader of the Rally of Spain 2021.
The Hyundai Motorsport driver gradually expanded his advantage over all the others starting from the second sector onwards, ending up beating an amazing Adrien Fourmaux by 1 “7.
Thanks to this result, and to Elfyn Evans’ contemporary fifth fastest time of 4 “3, Neuville has brought his margin in the general classification to 6” 7.
Even Sébastien Ogier was not the author of a time that brought him into the top 3 of the special. This suggests that the Toyota have tried to safeguard the tires for the PS9, the longest test of the day. We will see if this interpretation is true or if, on the other hand, it was simply Neuville who changed pace.
The fight for third place remains unchanged. Although Sordo did better than Ogier, the Spaniard from Hyundai recovered only a tenth of the leader of the World Championship.
Adrien Fourmaux’s amazing performance should be underlined, once again showing all his potential on asphalt by signing the second test time at 1 “7 from Neuville. The M-Sport team driver seems much more aggressive than yesterday. Oliver Solberg also did well, able to sign the seventh fastest time putting behind him more experienced riders such as Gus Greensmith and Takamoto Katsuta.
