Thierry Neuville made a strong restart. In the first special of the second day of the Rally of Spain, the penultimate round of the WRC 2021, the Hyundai Motorsport driver achieved the best time in 7’22 “5, doing better by 1” 7 compared to Elfyn Evans.
Neuville, with the scratch signed in the foggy Savallà 1 of 14.08 kilometers, obtained the fifth special victory of his weekend and increased the advantage over Evans in the general classification. Now the gap between the 2 is 2 “4. A margin still small, but considering the length of the last test yesterday and the first today, it is already indicative.
Evans, for his part, at the end of the test stated that he was too cautious in some points of the stage and that he was not happy with what he did. The Welshman of Toyota Racing will have to change pace in PS8 if he wants to try to counter the Belgian of Hyundai Motorsport.
Kalle Rovanpera started the day very well, with a third special time that certifies his progress on asphalt. The Finn, after changing his Yaris set-up in yesterday’s mid-day Service, literally changed pace. He is not yet at the level of the best, but the time of this test is very promising for his future.
The duel for the third position in the general classification sees Sébastien Ogier increase his advantage over Dani Sordo. The 7-time world champion did 9 tenths better than his rival. In doing so, he brought his edge over the home side to 6 “3. Almost impossible, however, to see him return to the battle for success this weekend.
To underline the excellent time obtained by Nil Solans, the sixth of special, 7 “6 from Neuville. The rookie of the 2C Competition team managed to get behind Adrien Fourmaux by 3 tenths, but also Gus Greensmith and Takamoto Katsuta.
