The ACI Rally Monza Italia 2021, the last round of the WRC, started again this morning with Special Stage 8, the San Fermo 1 of 14.80 kilometers. The best time was set by Thierry Neuville in the Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC, but there is even more relevant news to give.
After this test, the Brianza rally has a new leader. We are talking about Sébastien Ogier, who thus returns to solidify his first position in the Drivers’ World Championship after overtaking his teammate Elfyn Evans.
As we said, Neuville got the best time on the new pit of the race in 9’15 “4, ahead of Ogier by 1” 7. Evans did worse than his team-mate of 2 “9, for this reason he overtook him in the general, returning to the lead after having already been there for most of the day yesterday.
With this situation, Ogier would be world champion mathematically, because he would accumulate a 24-point lead over Evans. Therefore not even the Power Stage could allow the Welshman to recover points and take the first title of his career.
Good start for the Hyundai in general, with Dani Sordo in third place and an increasingly convincing Oliver Solberg also on asphalt. The Swede hit the fifth fastest time, just half a second behind Evans’ time. Teemu Suninen also improves, and not a little, good signing the sixth time at 1 “behind Solberg.
To report the great 11th absolute time, first among the RC2 priority riders, by Andrea Crugnola. The Italian driver, at the wheel of the Hyundai i2N Rally2, preceded drivers of the caliber of Andreas Mikkelsen, Yohan Rossel, Nikolay Gryazin. Marco Bulacia Wilkinson was forced to retire.
