Sébastien Ogier immediately showed that he had clear ideas by attacking straight away in the first two Sunday tests of the third and final stage of the Rally Chile, the third to last round of the 2024 WRC.
The French driver of the Toyota Gazoo Racing team, like all the others, had to deal with the fog, a major opponent he had already encountered yesterday afternoon, but he was the best at navigating the poor visibility and taking the lead of the Super Sunday.
The stakes must also be calculated in these performances: for Ogier, after yesterday’s withdrawal, there is little to defend. This therefore explains the less conservative approach of the Gap champion compared to what we have seen from other riders who, instead, are fighting for the podium and the fight for the title.
In this regard, it is interesting to see how Thierry Neuville, leader of the World Championship, seems more interested in controlling Ott Tanak, now first of the pursuers, rather than in bothering Ogier.
Tanak is fourth in the Sunday rankings, while Neuville is sixth, 7″3 behind the Estonian. Between the two there is also Esapekka Lappi, who has a 3″5 margin over the Belgian, but it is very easy for Lappi to give in the pass to Neuville precisely to allow him to gain another point and get even closer to winning the world title.
However, the fight for sixth place in the general classification continues, with Sami Pajari trying to defend himself from Gregoire Munster’s attacks. The Dutchman is only 2.3 seconds behind with 2 races remaining. The fight for position is as open as ever.
In WRC2 Yohan Rossel is getting ever closer to victory, while Citroen Racing is anticipating a double that would taste very sweet. The Frenchman has a margin of 18″1 over teammate Nikolay Gryazin, while in third place, 17″8 behind the Russian, is the first Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, that of Gus Greensmith.
