The last edition of the WRC welcomed the Rally of Ypres, initially excluded from the 2020 program due to the Covid-19 pandemic. After the 2021 stage, which was also won by home idol Thierry Neuville, the future of the Belgian round had remained pending until today, the day in which it was officially added also with regard to the season 2022. In this way, Ypres will therefore be included as ninth stage of the world championship, from 13 to 21 Augustin what is considered one of the most complex tests of the entire rally scene, both European and international.
The event, scheduled in north-western Flanders, had entered the European championship in 1965, only to enter the WRC officially last year. This season’s event, even before the shakedown, will feature an opening ceremony of the round, which will see the grand finale in the Wolf Power Stage, scheduled for August 21 at lunchtime. Ypres’s confirmation was met with statements from Jona SiebelCEO of WRC Promoter: “Belgium brought something very different to last year’s WRC – he has declared – thanks to its insidious special tests. The Ypres region wholeheartedly throws itself into the week of the rally. There is a lot of excitement about rehearsals and we’re sure it will be replicated in the city itself this time around, when fans are admitted to the beautiful Grote Markt service park. We were very impressed with the professionalism and plans of the organizing team Barum Czech Rally Zlin – Siebel specified regarding the exclusion of the latter in the choice between it and Belgium – remains a key event in the FIA European Rally Championship, and the door remains open to their WRC ambitions. We look forward to continuing to work with them ”.
