Hyundai Motorsport has managed to postpone the award of the WRC Constructors World Championship title to the last event of the season, the ACI Rally Monza Italia, and today announced the three crews with which it will try to complete the feat.
At Monza the Alzenau team will have to try to recover 47 points against Toyota Racing. As we said, a real business would be needed. In fact, a double and two of the three retired Yaris, with the third rather behind in the Top 10.
The team director Andrea Adamo ideally dictated the team motto in this part of the season: “Until the end. And in the end everything will be fine. And if it does not go well, it means that it is not the end”.
Meanwhile, Hyundai is preparing for Monza with the three crews chosen to face the last act of the season. With the recent farewell of Craig Breen, who switched to M-Sport Ford for the next 2 seasons, the choices made by the Korean manufacturer were practically obligatory.
At the wheel of the number 11 Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC Plus will be Thierry Neuville, sailed by Martijn Wydaeghe. The Belgian crew has returned from the resounding success on the asphalt of the Rally of Spain – the second success of the season – which made it the most successful of the team based in Germany.
On the i20 Coupé WRC Plus number 8 there will be the second starting crew of this season, the 2019 world champion made up of Ott Tanak and Martin Jarveoja. The Estonians arrive in Monza with the desire to redeem not only their retirement in Spain after an accident, but also a disappointing season, to say the least, and for several reasons.
Dani Sordo and Candido Carrera will be driving the third i20 Coupé WRC Plus number 6. The Spanish crew, thanks to the excellent third place in comeback in the home event, allowed Hyundai to keep the Constructors’ World Championship open and they will also be used in Monza.
