The last time Atalanta won away from Juve was on October 8, 1989. At the time, it was 0-1 with a goal from Claudio Caniggia. Since then, Atalanta has failed to win 24 games in a row at Juventus (18 losses, 6 draws).
With the historic victory, the team of trainer Gian Piero Gasperini strengthened its fourth place in the Serie. Atalanta now has 28 points from fourteen matches. That is seven points more than Juventus. The team of Matthijs de Ligt, who played the entire game against Atalanta, is falling further and further behind and is only ninth.
Atalanta, with Marten de Roon in the starting line-up, took the lead in the 28th minute. Duván Zapata was able to continue because De Ligt unintentionally prevented the Colombian from being played in an offside position. After a fine pass from Berat Djimsiti, Zapata completed his ninth goal of the season.
After the break, Juventus insisted, resulting in numerous opportunities for Weston McKennie, Paulo Dybala and De Ligt, among others. None of them managed to pass Juan Musso. In the final phase, Teun Koopmeiners joined Atalanta, which last lost in Serie A on 3 October. Hans Hateboer stayed on the bench with Atalanta.
For Juventus, it was already the fifth defeat in fourteen league matches. The team of coach Massimiliano Allegri is eighth, on 11 points from leader Napoli, which still has one game due. ,,Atalanta did little close to our goal,” said Allegri. ,,Their only shot on goal by Zapata was the result of a mistake by us. If the equalizer is not forthcoming, it becomes increasingly nervous.”
Inter makes no mistake
Internazionale did not make a mistake in the away game against Venezia. The team of trainer Simone Inzaghi won 2-0 in Venice.
Hakan Çalhanoglu scored the first goal after more than half an hour. The Turkish midfielder took about twenty minutes and the ball disappeared behind former AZ goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who still slightly touched the ball. Deep in injury time of the second half, Lautaro Martínez decided the game from the penalty spot.
Denzel Dumfries started at Inter on the bench and came in for midfielder Matteo Darmian in the 72nd minute.
Inter is third, one point behind fellow townspeople AC Milan and Napoli. The number 1 and 2 will still be in action on Sunday.
