Alessandro Miressi is the new world champion of the 100 freestyle in short course. At the Abu Dhabi show (United Arab Emirates), the 23-year-old Italian swimmer won the gold medal by reaching 45 “57, a new national record improved by one cent. For Miressi this is the first individual medal in the world.
Miressi, Turin swimmer of the Fiamme Oro, in the waters of the ‘Etihad Arena’ of the capital of the United Arab Emirates, preceded the American Ryan Held (45 “63) and the Canadian Joshua Liendo Edwards (45” 82) with a strong performance. In his career Alessandro Miressi boasts two Olympic medals, both won in Tokyo 2020, silver with the 4×100 freestyle relay and bronze with the 4×100 medley. At the World Championships in short course three years ago the bronze in the 4×50 freestyle. At European level, the new world champion of the 100 freestyle, won in 2018 in Glasgow on the 100 sl and then conquered the continental silver in Budapest 2021 and those in short course in Glasgow 2019 and Kazan 2021.
Disappointment for Gregorio Paltrinieri in the 1500 freestyle final: the blue finished his race in fourth place (14’21 ″ 00). The gold went to the German Florian Wellbrock with a time of 14’06 ″ 88, which is also the new world record snatched from Paltrinieri. Second place for the Tunisian Hafnaoui in 14’10 ″ 94, third place for the Ukrainian Romanchuk in 14’11 ″ 47. Fifth place for the other blue in the race, Domenico Acerenza (14’24 ″ 31).
