World of music mourning the death of singer Gared O’Donnell: he failed to win his battle against cancer
The singer and guitarist of the band Planes Mistaken for Stars passed away at the age of 44. Gared O’Donnell he lost his battle with cancer.

It is impossible to express the intensity of the pain with which we must announce that O’Donnell, our brother, our leader, our captain, who has done more to cultivate love and light in this world than any of us can understand, he passed out of his physical form here with us and crossed the rainbow bridge into eternity. In his final days, he was surrounded by the love of his family, friends, bandmates and many others from afar.
Gared O’Donnell’s disease
It was the month of August of 2020, when the singer Gared O’Donnell had announced the sad diagnosis: third stage esophageal cancer, inoperable.
He loved music and had founded the band in 1997 with guitarist Mat Bellinger, drummer Mike Ricketts and bassist Aaron Wise. A few years later, they debuted their first album Fuck With Fire in 2001, immediately followed by the second Up in Them Guts in 2004.
After their third album, released in 2006, Planes Mistaken for Stars disbanded, only to rejoin in 2010. The 2016 was the last year Gared O’Donnell worked with the band for the fourth disc.
Gared spent the last year of his life doing exactly what he loved, writing and recording music. We are currently working hard to carry out these multiple final projects. It’s heartbreaking to do it without him, but we know he would like us to complete what we started together. We will do our best to honor his legacy and spread the legend he embodied.
