Working life The Swedish company laid off 130 employees with a video sent by e-mail, the local newspaper said

The food company Bergendahls Food was taken over by the new company in the autumn. Employees were shocked at the way they reported layoffs.

Swedish Bergendahls Food lays off 130 employees via email, local newspaper says Norra Skåne.

According to the newspaper, employees had received a link to a pre-recorded video in their emails about the upcoming dismissal.

Bergendahls Food was taken over by Dagab, part of the Axfood Group, last autumn. The company’s employees have therefore been able to wait for possible redundancies. However, the scale and manner of redundancies surprised many.

Dagab Communications Manager Marie Svatonin according to the company decided to notify employees digitally of the layoffs due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company explained that it ended up sending a pre-recorded video instead of hosting a remote meeting because the message was so important.

The employee who commented to Norra Skåne, who remains anonymous, says that the company’s way of operating has resulted in the employees not being able to ask questions to the company’s management at all.

A similar case came to light in December when the CEO of mortgage broker Better.com Vishal Garg laid off 900 employees at Zoom video conference. Garg later apologized the way he had handled the matter and the fact that he had not shown tact in the situation.
