Liisa, a part-time worker, tried for years to be a suitable employee, so that she wouldn’t just be labeled as a troublesome subordinate. HS readers tell us what it’s like to have a seemingly endless fixed-term pipeline, where you have to prove your worth in the workplace every day.
“I am like a disposable glove. I’m called to do the dirty work, after which I’m thrown in the trash and replaced with a new glove.”
This is how the 32-year-old describes it Alice his status as a temporary employee.
He calculates that he has done paid work with at least 26 fixed-term contracts, both full-time, part-time and as an employee called to work if necessary. During his student days, he worked as a bar worker, and after completing his master’s degree, he worked as a clerk in the third sector and as an expert in the public administration.
