The State Road Demarcation is carrying out the works to connect the Northwest Arch with the A-30 highway (Cartagena-Madrid), between the Archena intersection and the Trasvase channel. The grading of the land advances to form a large link between the two roads, since at this point traffic will fork towards Murcia and Alicante (via the current route) and towards Cartagena, Lorca and Almería (via the future ring road).
In this way, said junction will become one of the main traffic distributors in the Region. It will remove more than 20,000 vehicles per day from the Ronda Oeste de Murcia and will facilitate the decongestion of this section, which is often overwhelmed. In addition, travel times between the interior and the coast will be reduced. To get from Cieza to Cartagena, you now have to go through the Molina de Segura ring road, the West Round of Murcia and the extension to La Alberca and La Arrixaca. With the Northwest Arch you will arrive directly from Archena to the Puerto de la Cadena.
Users going to Lorca, Mazarrón, Águilas, Andalucía, the Mula river region and Caravaca de la Cruz will have the same advantage, given that the arch will connect with the Murcia-Puerto Lumbreras motorway and with the Northwest regional axis.
The forecast of the Ministry of Transport is to finish the Northwest Arc throughout the coming year. The work was divided into three sections totaling 21.7 kilometres, with a budget of 152.3 million euros. The central government plans to tender this year the first section of the Arco Norte and part of the third lane of the A-7.
