According to some recent rumors, a title Marvel unannounced would be in development at the studio of XCOM, or Firaxis, And will not include existing Marvel characters but will instead allow players to create your own.
These details were disclosed by reporter and insider Jeff Grubb during a live stream on Giant Bomb during which he suggested that the title could potentially be announced at Gamescom this month.
2K recently confirmed that it is planning to announce a new franchise later this month, and Grubb said that this new chapter could be related to this rumored game dedicated to the Marvel universe.
As previously said, according to what Grubb said, it seems that this new Marvel-themed game will allow players to create their own superheroes, and therefore the title would be considered to be 2k as an original intellectual property. Here are the words of the insider:
The reason why it might still be [considerato] A new property even though it will be Marvel-themed is that this won’t involve any existing franchise, such as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There won’t be any characters in existence either. The title will not have any existing MCU characters, but is expected to take place in a larger universe.
Grubb further stated that the work it will focus on the more supernatural side of the Marvel universe and that players will be allowed to customize a team of superheroes, similar to how players can customize their team in games XCOM.
The game will focus on the supernatural elements of the Marvel universe […] I think they might be vampires. […] I think the character that the player will play will be a customizable superhero, or at least the team could be customizable, so it will be similar to XCOM and that is why it will not take place in any existing franchise.
The existence of the Marvel Firaxis project was revealed by multiple sources in June. In fact, a month ago Take-Two had stated that the study of XCOM would reveal several exciting projects this year, as stated by CEO Strauss Zelnick:
We expect Firaxis’ growth to continue as the studio has several exciting projects in development that will be revealed this year.
