Women ‘s rights Iran will allow women to enter football for the first time in two years

The Azadi Stadium in Tehran will host the World Cup qualifier Iran-South Korea. It is not known whether all willing women will be able to watch the match.

Ladies will get to a football stadium in Iran for the first time in two years, according to news agency AFP. This is the Iran-South Korea World Cup qualifier, which will be played on October 12th.

Iran, a priest-led Islamic state, is extremely hostile to women’s rights, and women’s access to sporting events is severely restricted.

“The presence of women in the match between Iran and South Korea has been officially approved,” a source close to Iranian state television reported.

The previous one once women were admitted to the stadium in October 2019, when Iran defeated Cambodia 14-0. Admittedly, sporting events have been largely frozen since then due to the corona pandemic.

Azadi Stadium can accommodate an audience of 80,000 people. It is not known how many women Iran will allow to watch the match against South Korea.

Women were denied access to the stadium during the 1979 Islamic Revolution. According to AFP, the international football federation Fifa has put pressure on Iran to open the national matches to the female audience as well.
