1News: The remains of a woman who disappeared 23 years ago were found in Australia
In Australia, police accidentally found the remains of a woman who disappeared in 2001. About it reports 1News.
23 years ago, 24-year-old Kelly Ann Carmichael traveled from her hometown of Geelong to Katoomba and disappeared. She was last seen leaving the hostel on April 29, 2001. A few years after Carmichael’s disappearance, she was declared missing, police began an investigation in 2004, and she was declared dead in 2009. Investigators believed that Carmichael could have caused irreparable harm to herself because she suffered from schizophrenia.
In 2011, the police announced a reward of 200 thousand Australian dollars (about six million rubles at the 2011 exchange rate) for any information about Carmichael, but this did not bring results.
Carmichael’s bones were found by accident during an unrelated police operation. Her belongings were discovered near Katoomba in April 2024, and her remains were found nearby in May.
