A woman pursues an expensive hobby thanks to her husband’s lottery win. She visits the same event of a famous star a total of 40 times.
Teesside – Win the lottery jackpot once: That is the longing dream of millions of people who put a not inconsiderable sum into lottery tickets every month in the hope of winning a big bonanza.
For Mark Brudenell from Teesside (UK) this dream came true in February 1997. He won a million pounds in the lottery. His wife Cheryl quickly realized what part of this profit would be spent on.
Lottery: woman finances crazy hobby with winning the lottery
The mother of two is a huge Robbie Williams fan, reports the Mirror. She has already attended at least 40 concerts throughout Europe. She and two friends stood in concert queues for hours at the crack of dawn to be very close to her star. She even spent a whopping £1,000 for a meet and greet in Las Vegas. Her husband knows how much her crazy hobby has cost her in total: “With all the hotels, flights, get-togethers, T-shirts and all the memorabilia, we probably spent more than £50,000.” The memorabilia include a Platinum record of the famous singer.
Down to earth despite winning the lottery
However, the costly hobby does not bring the two of them into financial worries. Five years after winning, Mark founded his own, now very successful, company. “I was 32 when I won and couldn’t imagine doing nothing for the rest of my life.” But Mark has also found a new hobby. “I have my golf hobby. I took lessons, bought the best clubs and now I play with a handicap of 12. I couldn’t afford it before I won.”
Despite their sudden wealth 25 years ago, the couple has remained down to earth and supports local aid organizations, including a children’s hospice. (myk)
