The stories left by the war in Ukraine after the Russian invasion continue to move the world. This time the story of a young volunteer who would have stayed in the country to help animal shelters and other institutions and who, according to her relatives, was killed by Russian forces.
Anastasiia Yalanskaya, a 26-year-old Ukrainian, was shot to death inside a car along with two other volunteers who were returning from delivering dog food to an animal shelter that had been without food for 3 days for abandoned pets in the middle of the conflict.
According to the versions of her relatives, spread by the ‘Global News’ media outlet, Yalanskaya decided to remain in the country despite the Russian attacks, in an attempt to help animal shelters and other vulnerable people affected by the invasion of her country.
‘Global News’ indicates that the young woman, who worked as a job recruiter, remained in Ukraine despite multiple calls from her family to leave the affected territory.

“I asked her to be more cautious. That today, a mistake costs a lot. But she was helping everyone around. I asked her to think about evacuation, but she didn’t listen”, her husband Yevhen Yalanskyi told the quoted newspaper.
In recent days, the woman created a blog on Telegram to narrate the moments she lived in the midst of the attacks. In her blog she had mentioned her intention to help a kindergarten that had no materials or elements to care for the little ones.
He also talked about helping a military hospital and an animal shelter.

“We are not afraid. We are united like never before. We help each other. We stand for hours at roadblocks and thank those who protect us, ”he said on his Telegram account.

The attack on Yalanskaya and other volunteers
‘Global News’ reported that Anastasiia Yalanskaya and two other volunteers went to deliver dog food to a shelter located in Bucha, a Ukrainian city located 30 kilometers from Kiev, the country’s capital.
The young woman’s last story on her social networks showed a photo of her sitting in the vehicle with the bags of pet food.
Apparently, according to the versions of her family, she and the two young people who accompanied her managed to deliver the food to the shelter, but when they returned they were intercepted and attacked by Russian forces present in the area.

Her best friend Anastasiia Hryshchenko alerted her to the whereabouts of the young woman after not hearing from her for several hours.
A person in the region found the car in which the volunteers were traveling, which had been attacked by bullets. The car was attacked at a close distance.
“Yalanskaya’s friends and family say her car was deliberately shot at at close range by Russian troops. They don’t know why she was attacked”, indicated the newspaper ‘ABC’.
According to Hryshchenko, the Russians are attacking civilians in order to subdue the population.
“They just shoot people at random. They see the civilians and they just shoot them (…) They want people to be scared and horrified. But it only makes our people braver.”
Although the attacks and clashes in the area have prevented the identification of the bodies of many deceased, their relatives recognized their tattoos and their driver’s license.
“She was one of the best human beings I have ever met. She vowed to help, to help her friends and relatives and whoever she needed help with.”, affirmed her husband, who added: “Not being able to help her on her last trip is very painful for me.”
