A woman feels harassed by a man. She publicly criticizes him for this. But that backfires. Because apparently he just wanted to help.
Los Angeles – Many men are absolute world champions in goggling. And that, although nowadays most men should be aware of the effect their behavior can have on people read by women. That is why it is still part of everyday life for many women to be exposed to the unpleasant stares of their fellow men. But where is the limit? When is looking ok, when is it going too far? A post on TikTok has now triggered exactly this discussion again.

TikTokerin posts video of “perverts” – it backfires
The conflict is no longer new. On the one hand, women still report extremely frequently about situations in which men take the right to inappropriately invade women’s privacy, obviously because of external appearances. On the other hand, some men complain again and again that nothing is allowed anymore, neither looking, being polite nor flirting.
A related phenomenon is that women post videos exposing this male behavior to draw attention to the problem. Los Angeles-based TikToker Jessica Fernandez also posted a video slamming a man who allegedly stared at the gym for his behavior. Presumably a good way to publicize the existing problem. But in this case, the attempt backfires. What’s behind it?
Influencer gets Shitstorm because she wants to embarrass man
Because with the echo that Fernandez received for her contribution, she probably did not expect it beforehand. Instead of a shitstorm for the man, she gets the criticism almost completely. About the background: Fernandez is an influencer who often films herself in various situations and shares it with the public. She also posts videos of herself from the gym.
In one post, a man is said to be recognizable who she thinks would stare at her in the gym. Therefore, according to her own statements, it is not possible to be relaxed in the gym and describes him as “crazy” and “perverted”. The video shows the man’s every step. At first, a few brief glimpses towards Fernandez can be seen.
“A toxic person, he’s not”: Netz protects man in gym
Then you can also see how the man goes over to the influencer to offer her his help. After all, the woman apparently has problems adjusting her fitness equipment correctly. However, she portrays him as a pervert who is said to have bad intentions. Your followers mostly see it differently. They see him as a helpful young man who possibly just wants to help, at worst he takes a liking to her and wants to flirt with her. Therefore he is defended in the comments.
One woman comments: “I see a toxic person in this video but the man is not.” Another woman comments: “Why do you think you are the center of the earth?”. Another user commented: “You obviously have problems with the fitness machine, he wants to help you and you portray him as a pervert? This is a pathetic attempt to destroy a man’s life for attention.”
“Shouldn’t treat men like this”: Woman posts video of helpful man – to embarrass him
Another user also writes: “That’s why I lose hope in humanity”. One woman comments: “I’m a staunch feminist, but if we’re going to fight the real problem, we mustn’t treat respectful and considerate men like you do.” Another user wonders: “What would you do if a camera was pointed at you without being asked? I don’t think the looks were even on you, be glad he wanted to help.”
In addition, there are many video reactions on the web that respond to the post. A video of it is titled “Women are being harassed in gyms a lot and it needs to stop”. Nevertheless, the author swears that in this case it would not be about such a case, but about a helpful man.
“He didn’t do me any harm”: Influencer apologizes for video on TikTok
Fernandez himself has since deleted the video of himself and posted an apology on Twitter. In it, she explains that “I want to apologize to the man from the gym.” She says the comments opened her eyes and presented the situation in a very different light for her.
She explains, “He didn’t do me any harm and I inflated the situation.” For the future, she swears to herself: “I will never hurt anyone in this way again” and only wants to draw attention to situations where a man would have really bad intentions.
