Sofía Herrera disappeared when she was only three years old while camping with her family in the province of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. In 2008, she was separated from her parents for a few minutes at John Goodall Field and was never heard from again.
14 years later, her mother María Elena Delgado does not lose hope of finding her after meeting an adopted young woman, who is the same age as her daughter and who, according to her, her physical resemblance is very similar to simulated images of Sofia’s appearance.
“She is one or two months after my daughter, but she is very similar. And everything I have seen and experienced during all these years, I think that, even from the background, it could be my daughter. I never lose hope”, commented María Elena Delgado to the Argentine newspaper El Clarín.
The minor whose mother asked for a DNA test lives in the province of San Juan in Argentina. Delgado found out about her after a woman contacted her via Facebook and told her that some neighbors had adopted a young woman very similar to his daughter. Her doubts began when she saw the photos of the minor through WhatsApp.
The Justice of Tierra del Fuego dismissed the possibility of doing the DNA analysis, after comparing with the Justice of San Juan the basic data of the 17-year-old adopted girl.
However, the Argentine security minister, Aníbal Fernández, at the insistence of the mother, said that the exam was going to be requested.
“I will never stop looking for my daughter, I always hope that she will come home”, Maria Elena Delgado assured the newspaper El Clarín in the framework of the 14 years without knowing her whereabouts since that September 28, 2008.
