The President of Bolivia, Luis Arce, was denounced this Tuesday (8) by a woman who says she was a victim of harassment and abuse of power by the head of Government in exchange, allegedly, for being appointed Vice Minister of Sports , something that ended up not happening. The Bolivian president has not yet commented on the accusation.
The woman, identified as Yessica VC, made the complaint at the headquarters of the Bolivian Legislative Branch, together with deputy Héctor Arce Rodríguez, who belongs to the wing of the Movement to Socialism (MAS) and is a sympathizer of former president Evo Morales and leader of the governing party.
According to the complaint, three years ago Yessica had a six-month relationship with President Arce in exchange, supposedly, for being named deputy minister of Sports, something that did not happen.
The woman claimed that she had meetings with the president at the government headquarters in La Paz and elsewhere, and that she became pregnant and lost her child after a motorcycle accident.
“We are victims that he [Luis Arce] he silenced himself with his work and abused his power, harassed and threatened me”, declared the woman.
Rodríguez described this accusation as “unacceptable” and accused Arce of having “used his status as president”, as well as “State resources and assets, State vehicles, offices at Casa Grande del Pueblo”, the presidential residence, to “ Play with your partner’s feelings.”
Rodríguez announced that in the next few hours he will file a “criminal complaint against Luis Arce” for the alleged crimes of “abuse of authority, misuse of public goods and services, extortion, sexual harassment, psychological violence, passive bribery and human trafficking.”
This complaint against Arce comes amid investigations against Morales for alleged human trafficking and rape, for which the former president was summoned to testify by the Public Ministry (MP) on Thursday (10) in the southern region of Tarija, where the case would have occurred.
Morales claimed to be the victim of “judicial persecution” by the government, while Luis Arce asked that the case be declared “secret” from the courts, which was accepted by the MP, and not be “politicized”.
