Mercedes 'weakened' in Bahrain
Third place in Qualifying, fifth place at the finish line: George Russell did the 'shrimp' in Bahrain despite occupying second position for a few laps after the winning attack against Charles Leclerc, the latter in crisis with brake problems that affected the race of the Monegasque from Ferrari.
In turn, Russell also had to deal with overheating problems which forced him to run a longer run than expected, a necessity which prevented the tires from remaining in the optimal operating window. Thus the W15 number #63 left room for the Ferraris and Sergio Perez's Red Bull, finishing in fifth position.
Toto Wolff underlined this aspect by framing the weekend in Saudi Arabia which will start the day after tomorrow with the first two free practice sessions: “Both Russell and Hamilton were happy with the balance of the W15, a much more honest car than the W14 – the words of the Mercedes team principal – unfortunately on Saturday evening the cooling was not sufficient and we had to manage without being able to show our true potential. It was frustrating, but a lesson we will learn from.”. In Saudi Arabia, in addition to F2, there will also be the Formula Academy on the track and Mercedes will field Doriane Pin. Wolff can't wait to see her in action.
