“Travel for free all year round with Trenitalia”. In recent days, many have received a link with a (fake) promotion via WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, which turned out to be a real scam. The first to clarify is the company, consulted by the agency Adnkronos: “It is a fake offer improperly attributed to Trenitalia. Naturally we immediately contacted the competent authorities.”
It all happens through a link that still circulates on social media in which, on behalf of the company, the opportunity to win free train tickets for a year is offered. The scam is well thought out because, once you click on the link, you are redirected to a page with colours, graphics, logos and characters very similar to those of Trenitalia: the gift card up for grabs is even shown.
The unfortunate people are only asked to fill out a form with all their data, even payment card numbers (the real objective of the scam). Once completed, a message appears announcing that you have won free tickets. But obviously there is nothing true, it is a phishing attempt, a type of online scam aimed at stealing personal data.
“We have already warned our users on all our social networks. We remind you that our regular promotions are published only on our website, on our App or on our official social profiles”, Trenitalia specified to Adnkronos. “This promotion has nothing to do with Trenitalia and any content connected to it does not in any way represent initiatives promoted by Trenitalia”.
