The World Bank said in a statement, on Tuesday, that funding for the program “Strengthening the resilience of the agricultural sector, value chain development and innovation (land)” will be provided during the project implementation period, starting from this year until 2027.
During the program, agricultural practices that take into account the climate dimension and water availability will be adopted, in addition to creating about 12,000 jobs in the agricultural sector in Jordan.
The report pointed out that the agricultural food sector in Jordan is considered one of the important sources of income and employment, and agriculture represents about 20 percent of the country’s merchandise exports, and the report indicated that the sector has untapped growth potential.
Climate changes greatly exacerbate water scarcity and increase the risk of drought, which affects agricultural productivity in the country, according to the report.
The Jordanian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Nasser Al-Shraideh, said that the approved financing program, “My Land”, will work to address the urgent challenges facing the agricultural sector in Jordan.
It should be noted that the “My land” program will be funded through a contribution of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development amounting to $95.6 million, a grant from the “Global Concessional Financing Facility” of $23.9 million, in addition to another grant of $5.5 million by the Horizon Partnership Program With the support of the Netherlands.
