Berlin – The European social democrats are counting on pushing through more social democratic ideas in the European Union with the future federal government. “A German government under Olaf Scholz shows, together with the good result of the PD in the Italian local elections, that we are experiencing a social democratic wave in the EU,” said the leader of the Social Democrats in the European Parliament, Iratxe García, of the “Augsburger Allgemeine” ( Wednesday). “We have to use the momentum to push for a progressive agenda.”
“We will increase our presence in the Council, where heads of state and government from Spain, Portugal and the three Nordic countries are already represented,” said Iratxe García. A German government under Olaf Scholz would be “very good news” for Europe. “We have a clear vision” to tackle “digital and green change” on the basis of solidarity and joint action through new economic instruments.
