Corinthians made history this Wednesday (8). In front of 30,077 fans, the biggest audience ever registered in the country in a women’s soccer match between clubs, Timão defeated São Paulo by 3-1, at Neo Química Arena, to win the Campeonato Paulista for the third time, all consecutively. Tricolor had won the first game, last Saturday (4), by 1-0 at Morumbi.

The feat ensured the triple crown of women’s football to Alvinegras, who also won the Campeonato Brasileiro and Libertadores in 2021. The last time a team from the country achieved three titles in the same season was 2014, when São José were champions in São Paulo, south -American and the Interclub World Cup held in Japan, which did not have the seal of the International Football Federation (Fifa).
The record audience mark, in turn, surpasses the 2019 final, also between alvinegras and tricolores, which had 28,862 spectators. At the time, Timão won 3-0 and won the cup for the first time.
This Wednesday’s title equaled Corinthians with three other clubs that are three-time champions from São Paulo: São José, Botucatu and Portuguesa. The biggest winners in the state are Santos, Ferroviária and Juventus, with four conquests each. São Paulo continues to hold two cups.
Unlike the first game, Corinthians had full control of offensive actions in the initial stage. The pressure of the Brabas, pushed by the fans, gave results in the 24th minute. Striker Gabi Portilho arranged for midfielder Gabi Zanotti (who had been selected as a center forward by coach Arthur Elias) to finish first and score a great goal, from the edge of the area. At 33, midfielder Tamires invaded the area from the left and crossed low for Gabi Zanotti, with a cart, to increase for the hosts.

The third one almost went out in the 41st minute, in a long shot from defensive midfielder Diany, who stopped at the crossbar. With difficulty to reach the Alvinegra area, São Paulo had an error by Natascha, at 47, to react. Pressed, the goalkeeper gave the ball at the feet of forward Naná, who took advantage and reduced the tricolor damage.
The goal reassured the Sovereigns, who reorganized themselves on the way back from the break and balanced the match, bringing down the intensity of the actions and getting to have more offensive presence in the first minutes. Uncomfortable, Corinthians tried to regain control of the intensity at all costs, but the wear and tear of the last game of the season was evident every minute on both sides.
When the duel headed for penalties, the title goal was scored. At 45 minutes, Poliana crossed over low on the right, Vic Albuquerque pivoted and Adriana, who was also forward, had a firm finish, from the edge of the area, to decree the three-time São Paulo championship for Timão.
