SAO PAULO (Reuters) – With 10% of the polls counted, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has 48.35% of the valid votes in this Sunday’s presidential election, while former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) appears with 42.87%, according to data from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
Simone Tebet (MDB) appears in third with 4.56% of valid votes, followed by Ciro Gomes (PDT) with 3.07%.
Election polls released on Saturday showed that Lula has a chance of being elected for a third term as early as this Sunday, without the need for a second round. For a candidate to win in the first round, he must have more than half of the valid votes.
If a second round is needed, it will take place four weeks from now, on October 30th.
