Although Ticino is known for its Mediterranean winters by the lakes, it also offers the opportunity to enjoy mountain nature immersed in beautiful snow-white landscapes. New winter hiking trails and snowshoeing trails are just waiting to be explored. Like the new winter hiking trail to Capanna Gorda (www.capannagorda-sanda.ch ), in the splendid Blenio Valley.
The new 6.23 km long winter hiking trail leads to the Capanna Gorda hut, overcoming an altitude difference of about 600 meters. Located on a plateau at 1,800 m asl, the hut offers a spectacular view of the Adula massif, the highest in the Ticino Alps, and the entire Blenio Valley. Alla baita, which has 30 rooms and a restaurant where you can taste the typical dishes of the Ticino tradition. you can only go up on foot or with a snowmobile that pulls a particular sled.
The itinerary starts from Camperio, in the municipality of Blenio, and climbs through an enchanting forest of fir trees. You gradually gain altitude, with the view fully repaying the effort of the ascent. The place is also internationally famous for stargazing. Next to Capanna Gorda rises Gaia, a very particular building in which the walls are made up of large windows from which you can admire the starry sky and the surrounding nature while comfortably in bed. A romantic and exciting experience. The structure is heated, so it is possible to stay overnight even in the colder months.
Also new are the itineraries with snowshoes and swings overlooking the enchanting ski area of Nara, with sunny slopes located between 1,400 and 2,200 m asl in the Blenio Valley. This winter, Ticino’s winter sports offer, a true leisure paradise, is completed by a new snowshoe circuit of almost 6 kilometers. The tour starts from the valley station of Leontica. A chairlift takes you to the intermediate station of Cancorì, where the new path for snowshoes begins and ends, well signposted. Along the path you will come across spectacular views of the Blenio Valley and two swings from the “Swing the World” project, to swing towards the Alpine panorama. Those who want can also take a little break at the Pela Bar, a meeting point for hot drinks and snacks not far from the route.
Lovers of culture and traditions of the Walser, the ancient Alpine population, cannot miss a visit to Bosco Gurin, the highest town in Ticino, located at 1,504 m asl, in a side valley of the Maggia Valley, about a now from Lake Maggiore. From the town, which in winter turns into a winter sports paradise, starts “On the trail of the Walsers”, A new snowshoe itinerary suitable for families, which winds around the idyllic village. The 2-kilometer-long snowshoe trail starts and ends in the Ferder district, above the village, and leads through the snow-covered landscape to admire the enchanting views of Bosco Gurin. Along the way you can also admire some traditional Walser houses. Stops in the numerous bars and restaurants of the place pleasantly warm up the excursions and the descents from the slopes, with many typical products of the tradition. (www.ticino.ch)
