Microsoft is increasingly focusing on advertising within the computer operating system. After the introduction (for Insiders) of advertisements in the Start menu, now it’s time for one Xbox Game Pass advertising in the Windows 11 Settings menu.
This is an understandable move, given that it is an internal Microsoft service that the company is trying to grow (although it seems that the number of subscribers is not increasing, exactly like for PS Plus), but we are also sure that many users do not they will appreciate the idea of seeing advertisements inside the operating system.
Xbox Game Pass, or rather PC Game Pass in the case of the computer version, it is a service available on multiple platforms and allows access to a large catalog of games for a monthly price. This advertising could serve to attract gamers who haven’t tried it yet, but it would be useless for those who don’t play games: Microsoft has also thought about it and has in fact stated that the Game Pass notification will only be visible if the user actively plays video games on PC.
Microsoft’s explanation for the Xbox Game Pass ad
In the last one Dev channel version 26120.470 (KB5037864), Microsoft says the new Game Pass ad will be visible under the Settings home page. Here’s how the company describes the change:
“We’re introducing a new Game Pass recommendation tab on the Settings home page. The Game Pass recommendation tab on the Settings home page will show if you’re actively playing games on your PC. As a reminder, the Settings home page will be displayed only in Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 and if you are signed in to Windows with your Microsoft account.”
Instead, we remind you of the details on the first advertisements in the Microsoft Start menu.
