The last one Windows 11 patch released by Microsoft in the Beta and Release Preview channels, accessible for subscribers to the Insider service, actually solves at least one of the two performance problems of AMD processors.
The KB5006746 update, presumably coming soon also for the public release, brings the Microsoft operating system to version 22000.282 and system, as reported by the AIDA64 guys, a problem related to the latencies of the L3 cache of the processors, in some cases almost doubled with the combination between AMD CPU and Windows 11. Installing it, therefore, solves the problems of performance drop encountered in some games, a segment on which Microsoft focuses a lot with its new operating system and its ecosystem in general.
The patch, which includes over 60 fixes, obviously also eliminates the effects of the Patch Tuesday update, so called given the decision to release the main updates of the operating system every first Tuesday of the month, which arrived, as we reported in this news, to triple the CPU base latency with some models such as the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X.
On the other hand, there is no mention of the problem of Collaborative Processor Performance Control service, designed to allow the system to give precedence to the fastest core of processors. Apparently CPPC2 does not work properly with AMD Ryzen and AMD Epyc processors, creating performance issues that may still be present. But we expect news in the near future given the importance of Windows 11 to Microsoft. At the same time, several gaming PC manufacturers have taken care to deactivate the VBS security service, designed to increase security in pre-assembled systems, on their PCs, so as not to suffer from the performance drops related to this feature we have talked about. in this news.
