According to Vattenfall, the estimated value of the investment in Finland’s first offshore wind farm is 2–3 billion euros.
Swedish state-owned energy company Vattenfall has entered into a joint project with Metsähallitus to build Finland’s first industrial-scale offshore wind farm.
According to Vattenfall, the nominal capacity of the park to be built in Korsnäs on the west coast of Finland will be 1.3 gigawatts. According to Metsähallitus, it corresponds to 40 percent of Finland’s wind power capacity in 2021. The possible annual production is 5 terawatt hours.
According to Vattenfall, the estimated value of the investment is 2–3 billion euros. The wind farm is scheduled to be operational in the early 2030s.
Upon completion The Korsnäs wind farm produces an amount of renewable energy that, according to Vattenfall, corresponds to the annual consumption of more than two million apartment buildings or the annual consumption of approximately 250,000 electrically heated detached houses in Finland.
Metsähallitus has organized an auction of offshore wind farm rights in the project, which is based on its mission to manage state-owned land and water areas.
