The head of AELTC Scott Lloyd said that negotiations are underway on the participation of Russians in Wimbledon
The head of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) Scot Lloyd spoke about the possibility of participation of Russians and Belarusians in Wimbledon 2022. His words lead Tennis 365.
Lloyd said that the tennis governing bodies and the UK government are in talks about the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the tournament. “We monitor public sentiment. We are trying to understand how the summer tournaments in the UK should be organized this year,” he stressed.
On April 5, The Telegraph newspaper reported that Wimbledon organizers wanted to remove Daniil Medvedev and other Russian tennis players from participating in the tournament in 2022. It was noted that the organizer can make decisions without the involvement of the UK Ministry of Sports.
On March 1, the Association of Tennis Professionals announced that it would allow the Russians to compete in a neutral status. Athletes in tournaments are deprived of the flag and anthem.
