Serbian Novak Djokovic and Spaniard Rafael Nadal avoided facing Britain’s Andy Murray and Australian Nick Kyrgios in the first round of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, which was drawn on Friday.
Because Murray and Kyrgios were not ranked in the tournament, they could have faced any of the top-ranked players in the tournament, but things didn’t work out that way, probably to please everyone.
Instead, Djokovic, the top seed in the tournament and the most prominent contender for the title, will face South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo, while Nadal will play 23-year-old Argentine Francisco Cerondolo.
Djokovic aims to win the seventh Wimbledon title and the fourth in a row, after winning the 2018, 2019 and 2021 editions, after canceling the 2020 edition.
Nadal won the Australian and French Opens this year, setting a record for winning the four Grand Slam titles with 22 titles, and there is a possibility that he will win the Grand Slam in one year.
Nadal must win Wimbledon for the first time since 2010, to stay on his way to achieving four grand slam titles in one year, an achievement that was last reached by Rod Laver in 1969.
Murray, who won Wimbledon twice previously, was drawn with Australian James Duckworth, and he could face American John Isner in the second round.
Kyrgios begins his campaign at Wimbledon against Britain’s Paul Job.
The real conflict in the first round will be between Stan Wawrinka, who won three Grand Slam titles, and who is participating in Wimbledon with a wild card with Italian Yannick Sener, the tenth seed in the tournament, while Matteo Borretti, runner-up of the last edition, will play against Djokovic, with Chilean Christian. Garen.
Italian Borrettini, who won both Stuttgart and Queen’s titles on grass this year, is in the same path as Nadal, while Djokovic’s path includes the likes of Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and Hubert Hurkacz.
The 19-year-old Alkars, who has won four titles this year, meets German Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round.
Casper Rudd failed to win any singles match at Wimbledon, as he participated twice and lost in the first round, but this year’s French runner-up will seek his first victory, when he faces Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas, 34.
