Last weekend was marked by appearance of northern lights in several countries of Asia, Europe and America. Social networks were filled with photos and videos showing the dazzling colorful skies and the excitement of citizens when encountering a natural phenomenon that is very difficult to find.
According to experts, the phenomenon occurred due to a geomagnetic storm in outer space, it could cause problems in electrical networks and lead authorities to take corrective measures on spacecraft.

According to this medium, the auroras could be visible from several cities in the United Kingdom during the night of this Saturday, May 18.
The sightings could be seen from the northern fringe of the country and a “red alert” has been issued which means that the phenomena may be visible to the naked eye or with cameras.
“The Met Office space weather department says Aurora enhancement likely to arrive early May 18 in Northern Hemisphere“, reads the cited media.
Why are the northern lights seen due to a geomagnetic storm?

According to the Canadian Space Agency, The Sun releases charged particles – electrons and protons – into space. The Earth forms a shield that redirects the solar wind and these magnetic field coalitions make possible the appearance of flashes that are reflected like a neon lamp.
“Auroras can be seen almost every night in the northern sky, from August to May. “The part of space where most of the dragging, stretching and snapping occurs is connected by magnetic fields to the northern and southern ends of the Earth,” the agency explains.
