During the annual financial back-and-forth that followed the report by Nintendoseveral interesting news have come out regarding the possible future moves of the company, which apparently is aiming higher and higher, following the excellent trail created by a really positive five-year period, and this time we are talking about a console backward compatible with Switch.
The trail we are talking about saw Switch break the record of the best-selling home console of the Kyoto House, which until now belonged to Nintendo Wii, not to mention the incredible quality of the titles that we have seen arrive on the market since the launch of the hybrid console in then, and the company’s willingness to invest in internal studios that own Nintendo DNA, without third-party acquisition.
The question, reported by the analyst David Gibson on Twitter with an attached reply:
Question) Will new users buy older titles? What’s the plan?
Answer) In recent years, about 60% of first party titles were in the catalog, in 3Q they were 50%. We want to release games that every type of user can play this year, and the one after.
Nintendo results call highlights –
Q) Are new users buying older titles? What is the trend?
A) in last FY of the 1st party volumes, around 60% was catalog, in 3Q it was 50%. Want to release titles that suit each type of user this year and into next year 1 /– David Gibson (@gibbogame) February 3, 2022
However, the question remains not too clear at the moment, and consequently we invite you to take that information with a grain of salt. Of course, the idea of a new console that could embrace the entire Switch stock fleet would be really tempting, especially to allow developers to dedicate themselves to completely new titles and not just a re-cataloging, as happened for example in the transition between Wii U. and Switch.
According to market analysts, the release of a new console for Nintendo would be estimated for 2024.
Still talking about the future, during the same question and answer the delicate issue of NFTs and the Metaverse was also dealt with, on which the company would have expressed itself in a positive and proactive way, where however the path that I will take is not yet clear.
