Now that the freezing cold is gone, it’s high time to visit the car wash. Road salt is one of the biggest enemies of the car. Older cars in particular suffer a lot from this aggressive substance, which eats into almost all parts of your car.
The main reason why you have to go to the car wash before the weekend is because you will be stuck in traffic on Saturday. After all, everyone wants to get rid of the caked-on salt that has been deposited in wheel arches in recent days and the white powder layer on the paint as quickly as possible. Another reason is that every day you wait ensures that salt can eat into the paint, among other things.
Rubber
Because rubber parts such as your tires, rubber strips and engine parts also suffer from the salt. This is because salt dries out the rubber. In addition, the salt can eat into the alloy rims, especially in places where the rim has minor damage. The road salt can end up there between the protective layer and the metal, increasing the size of spots on the rims. The same applies to the brand logos in the center of the wheels, which are often the first to be affected.
Sensors can be damaged
The paint is also most vulnerable in places where damage has already occurred, such as scratches or stone chips. There the rusting process can be accelerated considerably; as a rule, old cars with this type of damage are the most vulnerable. The sensors of the electronics also suffer from salt. It is not for nothing that it is not allowed to sprinkle on runways. Sensors of all kinds of equipment can become disrupted, which is why it is better to clean with plenty of clean water.
Soil cleaning
You can go to a car wash for cleaning. Choose the most modern one from where you live, because the brushes are the newest, so they will damage your car the least. It is also important that you choose a program that tackles the underside of the car (underfloor cleaning). And then to round off the whole thing, a post-treatment with hot wax, because this protective layer comes in places where you can’t reach by hand.
Gray white layer
If you still want to take care of your car in a wash box, make sure that you also completely clean the underside of the car with the high-pressure sprayer here. Actually wash the car with a brush or sponge, because just rinsing with water is not enough. Salt adheres well to the body of a car. This is especially visible on dark-colored cars after rinsing off the gray-white layer that becomes visible once the car has dried.
