This reader continues: ‘Walking routes, for example, have been given new posts, sometimes with up to five colours. Why does no one bother to indicate that color with a number? My husband has no use for the navigation system in the car, because all the colors are the same for him. This group of people is not taken seriously with their disability.’
Car editor Niek Schenk answers: ‘With such large numbers of colorblind people in society, it seems right to me that this should receive more attention in traffic policy. Colors could be replaced more often with icons or numbers. Hopefully your response in this column will help policy makers think about this more often.’
