FC Barcelona begins its new journey in the Europa League this Thursday and will do so without one of its winter reinforcements, Dani Alves. The Brazilian was one of the four players that the Barça club signed in the market along with Ferrán Torres, Adama Traoré and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, and all four were registered in LaLiga without any problem.
But in Europe the regulations are different. UEFA only allows three modifications to be made to the entry lists that are presented at the beginning of the season to play in the competition, therefore Barcelona could not include the four players on the list.
Finally, Xavi and the Barcelona coaching staff decided to prioritize the attacking positions and that the discarded one be the Brazilian full-back who will thus be left without playing in European competition this season and will only be able to continue playing in LaLiga.
In this way, Xavi will have to bet on another player for the right back in the playoffs against Napoli. Against Espanyol, it was Sergiño Dest who took the place of the Brazilian who could not play due to suspension and is the one who has the best chance of being the starter on the right side in the Europa League, unless Xavi decides to play with three central defenders.
Since he was registered as a new Barcelona player, Alves has played five games: two in LaLiga, two in the Copa del Rey and one in the Spanish Super Cup, scoring one goal and dishing out three assists.
