Fuel prices continue to rise week after week
until reaching historical limits. In fact, a liter of gasoline has already reached two euros at various service stations in Spain, something never seen before. Some experts point to the conflict with Ukraine or the low level of supply as the cause of the rise, but the truth is that Spain is the country in the European Union where it has increased the most in 2021, 22% compared to the month of January, according to a study by the National Association of Automatic Service Stations (Aesae) with data from the Geoportal of the Ministry for Ecological Transition.
The volatility in the prices of oil and its derivatives has been so wild in recent days that apparent contradictions are being seen and in some service stations diesel is already more expensive than gasoline, when there has been no change in taxes that apply to each fuel.
What is this about?according
Nacho RabadanCEO of the
Spanish Confederation of Service Station Employers (CEEES), because the gas stations themselves have to buy the most expensive fuel from one day to the next.
Although sales of diesel vehicles have plummeted, in the Spanish fleet there are still more diesel cars and, in addition, also heavy transport and the vehicles that travel the most kilometers are diesel. This means that gas-oil tanks at gas stations run out sooner and have to be refilled more frequently, so that the new crazy price of fuel has to be passed on to the end customer sooner.
For this reason, and as collected from
Autocasion, paradoxes are occurring these days and there are service stations where we can even find 95 gasoline more expensive than 98, because precisely the latter is the one with the least demand and where many gas stations take the longest to have to place the new order to maintain supply. It is also likely to find ‘low cost’ gas stations with higher prices than other traditional ones, precisely because they have more customers and therefore fuel turnover in their depots.
