In the dialogue, the Ukrainian president gave details of the telephone conversation he had with Bolsonaro on Monday and cHe compared the position of the Brazilian president with that of the leaders who remained neutral during the Second World War.
“I am grateful to him for the conversation but I do not support his position of neutrality,” Zelensky said in excerpts from the interview, which were broadcast during the broadcast of Jornal Nacional, the main news program of the Brazilian network.
“In World War II it was like this: many leaders were neutral at the beginning. This allowed the fascists to swallow half of Europe and expand more and more until they captured all of it,” he added.

At the interview, Zelenski also asked for a position from Brazil in the face of the conflict and criticized Bolsonaro’s intentions of wanting to “mediate” in it.

Since the outbreak of the war, Bolsonaro has avoided condemning Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory and has maintained a “neutral” and “balanced” position in the face of the conflict.
Likewise, he has been critical of the siege of economic sanctions that the West has adopted against Russia, to which Brazil, the largest economy in Latin America, has not joined.
In fact, Bolsonaro has promoted his cooperation with the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he visited last February, on the eve of the war, to guarantee the supply of fertilizers for Brazilian agricultural producers.
The full interview, the first to be conducted with a Latin American media outlet, will be broadcast next Sunday in a special on the Brazilian network.
