Every “Friends” fan remembers chandler bingcharacter played by Matthew Perry in the famous sitcom of the 90s. However, despite how well received the television series is to this day, the 53-year-old actor has confessed that he can’t see the show that made him world famous again. The reason? One that would be tied to death.
“Friends, lovers and the big terrible thing”. This is the name of the book of personal memoirs in which Perry recounts some of the strongest episodes of her life and reveals the reason why she prefers not to see any chapter of fiction.
The time Matthew Perry saved himself from death
As he has said in some previous interviews, the problem that plagued Perry as he continued to rise to fame on each set of the series was his strong addiction to alcohol and drugs.
“They put me on an ECMO machine. It is what doctors and people call a Hail Mary,” the actor told in an interview with CBC.
According to his account, that time there were five people (including him) with said device. “The other four died and I survived”he remembered.
Why can’t Matthew Perry watch “Friends”?
Also, Matthew revealed why he can’t just sit back and watch the series or relive those years when his character as Chandler won the hearts of fans.
“I can’t watch the series because I was extremely thin”he explained. “I could go drinking, opiates, drinking, cocaine. I could tell season after season by how I looked. I don’t think anyone else can see it, but I could. That’s why I don’t want to see it.”
Despite the above, last year Matthew Perry participated with his co-stars in the special “Friends: The Reunion”where he revived his time in the series.
