Yet another accident on Italian roads: a 53-year-old man, Tiziano Locatelli, lost his life after being thrown 25 meters from his motorbike
A tragic road accident shook the community of Sant’Omobono and the surrounding villages on the evening of Tuesday 1 October. On the provincial road 175, which connects Almenno San Bartolomeo with Barzana, Tiziano Locatelli53 years old, died following a very violent collision while he was driving his TMax scooter. Originally from Sant’Omobono, Locatelli was a well-known man: he worked as a driver and, in the past, had managed the town’s Juve bar. He lived with his elderly mother, for whom he took dedicated care.
The accident occurred shortly before 6pm, near the Rota furniture factory. Locatelli was traveling in the direction of Barzana when, suddenly, an Opel Corsa, driven by a 28-year-old young man from Sotto il Monte, entered the provincial road from a side road, via Aldo Moro. The boy was returning home from work and, to turn left towards Barzana, he would have crossed the oncoming lane, just as Locatelli was arriving. The crash was inevitable.
The impact between the scooter and the car was devastating. Locatelli was violently thrown from his motorbike, flying for about 25 meters before ending up on the side of the road. There was nothing that could be done for the 53-year-old: the 118 rescuers, who arrived promptly on site, were only able to confirm his death. The driver of the car, however, was physically unharmed, but will probably be scarred for life by what happened.
The traffic police, who intervened at the scene of the accident, carried out the necessary investigations to reconstruct the exact dynamics and ascertain any responsibilities. Initial reconstructions indicate that the motorist may not have seen Locatelli’s scooter arriving as he was entering the provincial road. The investigations are still ongoing and will be crucial in clarifying the entire affair.
This tragedy once again turns the spotlight on the dangers of the road, particularly on provincial arteries such as the SP175, where intersections and side entrances often become the scene of fatal accidents. Riding on two wheels involves high risks, especially during rush hour, when visibility is reduced and vehicle speed is higher. Unfortunately, accidents like the one that ended Tiziano Locatelli’s life are far from rare and draw attention to the need for greater prudence and attention on the part of all road users.
