Who wants Vox in Congress? He stays alone in 60% of his initiatives

The extreme right is fashionable, as ERC spokesman Gabriel Rufián, and confirms the latest elections in the United States, Argentina or Italy a few days ago. But that popularity does not move to the Spanish Congress, where Vox with his 33 deputies is unable to get initiatives forward, backed only by the PP in some of his positions. Santiago Abascal’s party is left alone in 58% of its propositions of law, motions or proposals for reform.

In the voting of the Congress there is a kind of sanitary cord, which only sometimes breaks the party of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and which is also reflected in the chamber organs: they have been left out of the main table and also of the commissions Despite having more parliamentarians to add, as happened a few days ago with the vowels of the Central Electoral Board.

Part of the answer is in the parliamentary configuration that they left The generals of July 23: A majority of rights but unable to agree precisely because of the presence of Abascal. It was the impossibility of Feijóo to articulate a sum of votes without the extreme right that moved him away from the support of the PNV and Junts and the one that facilitated at the same time that Pedro Sánchez could revalidate the government. And that photo is the one seen practically daily in the Chamber Voting Registry.

Outside those decision positions, Vox has pure legislative activity. It may present propositions of law, propositions not of law, motions, amendments or propose debates of totality, reforms of the regulation and some minor mechanisms, in addition to doing both in writing and orally questions to the government.

According to the voting count prepared by eldiario.es, Vox has been unable to get any of these initiatives forward. But not only that, in all of them it has been left alone or to a lesser extent the only support of the PP has collected. Of the seven laws that have submitted to the vote of the plenary so that they can initiate their processing, in four they were unable to add a single more vote and in three they achieved the adhesion of the formation of Feijóo.

His roof are the 171 votes that only once won in one of his initiatives, with seven abstentions and 172 against.

With the current majority, parties that are outside the investiture partners have complicated to get their projects forward, but the PP has managed to open a hole in that block and write down victories on some occasions, although always in initiatives of little importance, most of law propositions and in many cases voted by points, a mechanism that the party usually activates to facilitate the accessions of other parties.

One of those victories occurred this Thursday, when ERC and Juns abstained in a proposition of the PP law that urged the government to extend the useful life of nuclear power plants.

But neither Junts not usually be willing to support the extreme right in their initiatives, which complicates the Abascal party to follow the steps of the PP and what signs its image of solitude in the legislature. This same Wednesday, the Plenary voted a motion as a consequence of urgent interpellation promoted by Vox and defended in the gallery by its deputy Rocío de Meer who talked about the “demographic winter”, a euphemism to end up attacking the migrant population. “The Spanish population does not grow, it is replaced little by little by those who bring massively so that it does not notice, but it shows. It shows in many neighborhoods and villages of Spain; It shows in Níjar, it shows in Salt, where almost 90% of births are from foreign mothers, ”he said.

A speech that even the PP dared to subscribe – he abstained – and that ended up leaving once again Vox with the unique support of his 33 deputies.

Thus Vox initiatives have been voted in Congress

In fact, although Feijóo’s party has ended up supporting Vox in just over 40% of its initiatives, that percentage amounts to the division of some of these points by points, in line with the PP strategy: it has supported less than A dozen motions, NLPs or propositions of full law, the rest are specific points of some of those proposals.

Vox got the PP yes in his less ideological proposals. In June, he voted in favor of taking into consideration a law of the extreme right to modify the operation of the Constitutional Court. And a few months earlier, in February, a law to modify the appointment system of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) with the objective that its members are chosen by judges and magistrates, something that the PP had demanded on numerous occasions as an excuse to refuse to agree on the renewal of that body with the Socialist Party.

The only exception, a Vox law that sought that foreign minors in a internment center for minors for having committed a crime does not receive unemployment subsidy when they were released and that the PP also supported. “I am not going to do populism with this issue or I will make demagogy with this issue and much less I am going to sign up for the Xenophobia speech, because my party, the Popular Party, is a state party,” said the then deputy of the PP Asier Antona to defend the group’s position in the Plenary, which ended up being affirmative.

The farthest thing that has been a different game from the PP to add your votes to Vox is together. It was one time, on September 11 of last year, in a non -law proposition that mainly claimed the elimination of the “ideological and superfluous expense” of the General State Budgets (PGE) in Health, and in which the extreme right He asked to divide the vote into points: Carles Puigdemont’s game abstained in the six although that abstention did not allow the initiative to move forward.

Thus, while the extreme right grows internationally and some of its speeches become hegemonic in certain sectors of the Spanish population, vox despite climbing in the surveys remains cornered in Congress by a block of investiture that resists supporting any of its initiatives and a PP that only sticks to a partner who has demonstrated too uncomfortable.
